The ‘Pay Back to Society Group’ (PBSG) mission of the State’s Armed Forces officers which aimed at promoting armed forces as a career opportunity for students came to a successful end on Sunday.

The mission was launched by Governor BD Mishra on November 25.

Accordingly, a programme was organized at Raj Bhavan here in which Governor Mishra, Arunachal Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein participated.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor complimented the officers, which included 20 from the Army, 4 from the Navy and 3 from Air Force, all of whom are natives of Arunachal Pradesh, for their service and pinned the ‘Team Arunachal’ lapel pin on the chest of each individual.

Thanking the Chief Minister and deputy chief minister for their support to the mission, the Governor said that it is a result of joint effort by the State government, the three Chiefs of the Indian Armed Forces and the individual Arunachalee officers that the mission was successful.

He felt that the mission had to be repeated in different doable and practical formats and said that the possibility of the deputy directors of school education, who are well experienced, could act as the nodal officers for future such programmes.

The Governor further said that the social contribution of the officers who were a part of the mission will always be remembered by him, the government and the people.

Major General Jarken Gamlin in his briefing informed that a total of 83 schools and 10 colleges in different parts of the State were covered during the mission which saw the enthusiastic participation of more than 17,660 students.

He said that the officers, who were divided into eight groups, conducted motivational talks in Aalo, Kamba, Likabali, Pasight, Roing, Yingkion, Tezu, Namsai, Changlang, Khonsa, Longding, Bomdila, Tawang, Ziro, Raga, Daporijo, Hawai, Itanagar and Yupia.

“There were larger numbers of girl participants,” he said while adding that numerous requests for setting up of NCC and Scouts and Guides units in the educational institutions came up during their tour.

The Chief Minister and his deputy thanked the officers and expressed their gratefulness to the Governor for the initiative.

They assured budgetary provisions for such missions in the future.

Earlier in the day, the PBSG continued with its awareness programme at North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST).

During the interactive session, officers from the armed forces briefed the students on various avenues of joining the armed forces while highlighting that one gets to serve the nation in various capacities and the same provides a sense of contentment to an individual.

The team of officers also briefed the students about the objectives of PBSG’s mission.

The officers urged the students to utilise the opportunity as the programme has been specially designed for them to interact directly with the Armed forces officers of the State.

The officers also shared inspirational stories about their journey. Many of the officers also shared how despite being from humbled background born in small villages in various parts of the State, they overcame all the odds to serve the nation.

The team was led by Group Captain Mohonto Panging Pao, Surgeon Commander Marak Pertin, Major Ponung Doming, Major Tero Kayang and Captain Ado Hage.

Among others, the NERIST dean (SA) Dr Pradeep Lingfa, Circle Officer Bittu Kri and a host of faculty members of the Institute attended the session.

The Pay Back to Society Group mission aims to promote the armed forces as a career opportunity through motivational session by directly holding interaction between the Arunachalee armed forces officers and the students of various schools.
