National School Games: Arunachalee weightlifters Balo, Charu win silver

Both the athletes from Arunachal Pradesh Balo Yalam and Charu Pesi lifted 129 kg in total

Arunachalee weightlifters Balo Yalam and Charu Pesi have won silver in the ongoing 64th National School Games being held at the SAI Regional Centre here.

Participating in the Girls’ 49 kg weight category, Yalam, who lifted equal (total) weight as that of the gold medal winner of Maharashtra, had to, however, settle for the silver medal.

According to the rules of the Indian Weightlifting Federation, the athlete, who achieves the target first, is declared winner in such case, Arunachal Weightlifting Association general secretary Daniel Teli informed.

Both the athletes lifted 129 kg in total.

Yalam lifted 55 kg in snatch and 74 in clean and jerk.

Meanwhile, Charu Pesi while competing in the 61 kg category of boys section lifted a total weight of 210 kg with a 90 kg snatch and 120 kg lift in clean and jerk.

The other lifters from Arunachal Pradesh namely Neelam Sopin and Sandiya Gungli had to settle for the fourth place in the respective categories.
