The death toll in the landslide in Arunachal Pradesh rose to seven as three more deaths were reported later on Friday.

As per reports, three people including two minor died on the spot when the house they were living in was buried by a mudslide in Modirijo near Itanagar on Friday, while rescue operation to retrieve the body of the fourth person was still on till the filing of the report.

Capital Superintendent of Police Tumme Amo said, “The incident occurred at around 11.30 am after the kutcha house of one Kamdak Tado was completely washed away by a massive landslide that came down from the dumping area of NH 415.”

“Besides the deceased, a little boy managed to run out of the house and a girl who was trapped inside the house was somehow rescued. She received injuries in one of her legs and has been shifted to RK Mission Hospital for treatment,” Amo said.

The SP said the search and rescue operation to retrieve the body of the fourth person is still on and teams of the Itanagar Police and SDRF have been engaged to search the missing person.

The deceased have been identified as Kamduk Kagung (30), Kamdak Karna (9) and Kamdak Jita (8).

Earlier in the day, four people including a minor were killed in a similar incident at Tigdo village in Papum Pare district.

The landslide hit the village at around 2.30 am.

The bodies of all the four deceased have been retrieved from the debris by the search and rescue team.
