Justice Vijai Kumar Bist was declared the Chief Justice of Sikkim High Court on Tuesday.

The post was vacant following the superannuation of Justice Satish Kumar Agnihotri on June 31.

The senior judge of the Uttarkhand High Court was administered the oath of office at Ashirwad Hall of Raj Bhavan in Sikkim by Governor Ganga Ram Prasad in the presence of Chief Minister Pawan Chamling, cabinet ministers, MLAs and senior officials of the high court.

Bist received his degree in law from Allahabad University and registered himself with the Bar Council as an advocate in 1984.

Initially, he practiced at Allahabad High Court until 2000 and later continued his practice at Nainital.

Born on September 17, 1957 at Powdi Garwal district in Uttarkhand, he was appointed as a judge of Uttarkhand High Court in November 2008.
