Security forces on Thursday recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition from Miao Bum area of Changlang district in Arunachal Pradesh.

Changlang superintendent of police Mihin Gambo informed that the arms and ammunition, which are suspected to be hidden by insurgent groups, were recovered by the team of 9 Rajputana Rifles of the Indian Army and Miao Police.

The team recovered an AK-56 assault Rifle, 3 magazines, 115 rounds of 7.62 mm live ammunition, 40 mm under barrel grenade launcher, hand grenade, four stick powder-gel explosive weighing around 500gm, one .22 pistol and several other explosive materials, the SP said.

Based on an FIR lodged by the 9 Rajputana Rifles, a case has been registered at Miao police station under relevant sections of law and the matter is under investigation, Gambo said.

The security forces and Arunachal Pradesh Police in Changlang district from time to time launch operations against insurgent groups.

On May 9, security forces apprehended a top cadre of NSCN(KK) near Jongji Havi in Changlang district.

Based on a specific intelligence regarding the presence of senior cadre belonging to the proscribed group, the joint team of Assam Rifles and Arunachal Pradesh Police launched an operation in the area.

The troops had nabbed an NSCN(KK) cadre, identified as SS Captain Hangnong Pangtha.
