Arunachal Pradesh governor BD Mishra on Sunday urged the Centre to create separate cadre for all India service officers in the state.

Governor Mishra raised the issue of separate cadre as he called on union minister of state (independent charge) for development of northeastern region (DoNER) and PMO, Dr Jitendra Singh.

Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu also said on Sunday that a separate cadre of all India officers for the state is the need of the hour.

According to Khandu, there is the need of creating a separate cadre for a sustainable and seamless development of Arunachal Pradesh.

Khandu has been pressurisng the central government for a separate cadre since long.

Khandu has thanked governor BD Mishra for taking up the issue of creating a separate cadre of IAS officers with the central government.

Informing about his meeting with governor BD Mishra, union minister Dr Jitendra Singh on his Twitter handle on Sunday said, “Governor of #ArunachalPradesh, Brig (Retd) B D Mishra called on to discuss a wide range of issues, particularly cadre related and other matters pertaining to the State.”

While sharing union minister Singh’s tweet, Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu re-tweeted saying: “A separate cadre is the need of the hour for a sustainable and seamless development of our State, which I had been pressing for all along.”

“I whole heartedly thank our Hon’ble Governor for his proactiveness in taking up the issue with appropriate office in GOI,” Khandu added.

It may be mentioned that Arunachal Pradesh is presently a part of the AGMUT cadre, shared by uUnion territories and the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram and Goa.

According to an official statement, Mishra said the demand for a separate cadre is inspired by the increasing requirement of IAS officers for Arunachal Pradesh as well as by the consideration of having officers exclusively designated to serve in the state.

As the two new union territories — Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh — will also be part of the AGMUT cadre after October 31, Mishra urged union minister Singh to explore the possibility of excluding the states out of it, since two new UTs will get added to the cadre from next month.

Union minister Singh conveyed to the governor that he has already instructed the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) to undertake an exercise to explore the feasibility of the demand put forward by the Arunachal Pradesh government, say media reports.

The minister said since the union territories fall under the domain of the home ministry, an option, if any, will require to be discussed with the home ministry as well.

However, the DoPT shall try to take up the issue with the home ministry also for their view.
