A devastating fire engulfed the Roing main market here at Roing, the district headquarters of Lower Dibang Valley district in Arunachal Pradesh at around 10.30 pm on Tuesday.

According to fresh inputs from Roing, the fire was so huge and disastrous that the locals had to use JCBs to demolish the market and neighbouring residences to stop fast spreading of the fire.

Panic gripped the local residents as nothing worked to prevent the fast-spreading fire.

No fire tenders reached the site and the locals, businessmen, civil and police administrations remained mere spectators looking at the fire.

Roing is located around 121 kilometres north of Namasai.

The market stretching extensively in a huge area in the heart of the town could not be saved from the impact of the uncontrolled fire resulting in huge damage and loss to property.

The casualty and loss, however, could not be ascertained due to darkness.

Short-circuit in the market area might be the cause of fire, said a local vendor, whose stationery shop was turned to ashes.
