Eco-Tourism-cum-Angling Festival for preserving aquatic life began in West Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh on Wednesday.

“The festival is a step towards conservation of aquatic life and for promoting tourism in this unexplored part of the state,” said Liromoba MLA Nyamar Karbak.

This is the first edition of the festival, which is held at the Sibu-Siyik confluence under Darak circle.

Hundreds of anglers and nature lovers attended the inauguration.

“This festival will be held annually from now on and will help in generating employment,” assured Karbak.

“The annual sports carnival of Liromoba is also a step towards spotting hidden talents and promoting employment through sports,” he added.

Tourism director Abu Tayeng informed that the tourism department has earmarked an amount of Rs 20 lakh to celebrate the angling festival’ this year and assured of more assistance in the future.

He also assured of providing an SUV to the area which would ply passengers from Liromoba to Aalo via Yomcha.

Cultural shows and exhibition of local cuisines are also a part of the carnival.
