Abduction of Arunachal teen: China taking full advantage of Modi’s silence, says Congress

The Congress party has launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the abduction of a teen from Arunachal Pradesh by the Chinese Army.

“Month after month, day after day, the Chinese threat increases. From building villages to building bridges, to abducting our people, China is taking full advantage of Modi ji’s silence,” Congress said in a tweet.

A 17-year-old Arunachal youth Miram Taron was allegedly abducted by the Chinese PLA on January 18 from Zido village inside the Indian Territory.

On Wednesday, BJP’s Arunachal Pradesh (East) MP Tapir Gao raised the issue of Taron’s alleged abduction.

Gao stated that Taron has been kidnapped from the Lungta Jor area where the Chinese army has built a road inside Indian territory.

He added that Taron’s friend escaped from the Chinese Army and reported the abduction. Seeking the teen’s early release, Gao urged the Centre to intervene.

Coming down heavily on Prime Minister Modi for his silence on the issue, the Congress party asked when the PM will speak out against such Chinese actions.

“Does Modi ji realise that every time he remains silent on Chinese aggression, he gives China the confidence to continue crossing all lines? When will this stop? When will the PM speak out against such Chinese actions?” the party said in another tweet.

“Modi ji must answer- how can a young son of Bharat Mata be abducted by Chinese PLA if national security was really his govt’s priority? We only hope he doesn’t respond with a “no-one has intruded our land,” said Congress.

The Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence on the abduction of the teen from Arunachal Pradesh.

Expressing solidarity with the teen’s family, Gandhi lamented that an Indian citizen was abducted by the Chinese Army just days ahead of India’s Republic Day.
