Alan said the British Council was hopeful that more students from Arunachal and other states of the Northeast will avail the scholarships being provided to them.

He further informed that the year 2018 marks 70 years of the British Council in India and accordingly to make the occasion special, the British Council  is getting into a MoU with the North Eastern Council (NEC) in a week that will allow them to train teachers in English language in the Northeast.

“The main focus of the British Council  is to train English to teachers of government. We have so far trained over one million teachers in the past decade and we would continue do so in the future as well. The British Council wants to develop real expertise working in government schools, especially in the North East region,” Alan said.

Speaking about the promotion of Indian culture, Alan said the Council has been trying to promote artists from the Northeast and accordingly a music video album was created where 12 artists from the Northeast performed and the same was a hit.

British Council is also supporting the performance of Nubya Garcia, one of the most exciting talents in the UK jazz scene, at the Ziro Festival of Music.

This is the first time that British Council has presented a UK artist at the Ziro festival, Alan informed.

Alan along with British Council India’s director of east and Northeast, Dr Debanjan Chakrabarti called on Chief Minister Pema Khandu at his office in Itanagar.
