The Bharatiya Janata Party’s winning streak in the panchayat and municipal elections continued in Arunachal Pradesh as it bagged more than 5,300 panchayat and five municipal council seats ‘unopposed’ ahead of the December 22 polls.
The panchayat and municipal elections in Arunachal are scheduled to be held simultaneously on December 22.

According to the latest data, released by the state BJP on Wednesday, the Saffron party has managed to win 96 zilla parishad members’ (ZPM) and 5,277 gram panchayat members’ (GPM) seats uncontested in the two-tier rural body polls.
The BJP has managed to win 11 ZPM and 404 GPM seats unopposed in the Upper Subansiri district while 8 of its ZPM and 296 GPM candidates have won the elections uncontested in the Kra Daadi district.
The party has won 7 ZPM and 464 GPM seats in the Lower Subansiri district while six of its ZPM and 221 GPM candidates have won the polls uncontested in the newly-created Kamle district.

In Kurung Kumey district, the BJP has won 6 ZPM and 263 GPM seats uncontested followed by 4 ZPM and 310 GPM seats in Tawang, the home district of Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu.
The party has won 9 out of the 14 ZPM seats uncontested in the West Kameng district and also managed to grab 490 GPM seats uncontested.
In East Kameng, the BJP has won 7 ZPM and 303 GPM seats unopposed while the party has won 6 ZPM and 263 GPM seats in Kurung Kumey district.
Two of the Saffron party’s ZPM and 145 GPM candidates have been elected uncontested in the Papum Pare district while one ZPM and 78 GPM candidates have managed to come out unopposed in the rural elections in Lepa Rada district.
In West Siang, the BJP has managed to win 5 ZPM and 278 GPM seats unopposed while the party has managed to win 7 ZPM and 197 GPM seats in the Upper Siang district.
There are no uncontested wins in the ZPM polls in Lower Siang, East Siang and Siang districts so far.
However, the BJP has managed to win a total of 328 GPM seats uncontested in the three districts.
The party has won two ZPM seats in Shi-Yomi and one in the Pakke Kessang unopposed and has also managed to win a total of 120 GPM seats in the two districts.
In Lower Dibang Valley, 3 of the BJP’s ZPM and 96 GPM candidates have registered unopposed wins while the party has so far managed to win 1 ZPM and 424 GPM seats in Namsai district.
The saffron party has created history in the Dibang Valley district where it has won all 4 ZPM and 71 GPM seats uncontested.
ZPM candidates of the BJP have won a seat each in the Lohit and Anjaw districts as well besides winning a total of 165 GPM seats unopposed.
Five BJP candidates have won the ZPM seats unopposed in Changlang district while the party has managed to win 2 and 3 ZPM seats respectively in the Tirap and Longding districts.
A total of 783 GPM seats have been won uncontested in the three districts by the party.
Meanwhile, the BJP has also managed unopposed victories in 5 out of the 20 seats in the Itanagar Municipal Corporation following the scrutiny of nominations filed by the candidates.
There has, however, been no unopposed victory in the Pasighat Municipality polls that has 8 seats.
According to the state election commission, a total of 41 candidates have so far filed nominations to contest the municipal elections in the Itanagar Capital Region while 17 candidates have filed their nominations for the Pasighat Municipality polls.
