The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party has won more than 1075 panchayat and a couple of municipal council seats ‘uncontested’ ahead of the local body elections in Arunachal Pradesh.

The panchayat and municipal polls in Arunachal is scheduled to be held simultaneously on December 22.

According to the data released by the state BJP on Saturday, the party has won as many as 75 ZPM, 2 municipal council and more than 1000 gram panchayat member seats unopposed in the state.

As per the data, eleven of the party’s ZPM (zilla parishad member) candidates have been elected unopposed in the Upper Subansiri district while 7 candidates have won the ZPM seats uncontested in the Kra Daadi district.

The BJP has also won 6 ZPM seats each in the Lower Subansiri, Kamle and Kurung Kumey districts unopposed while a similar trend was followed in the West Kameng, East Kameng, Upper Siang and Changlang districts where the party has won 5 seats each.

Four candidates of the Saffron party have been elected uncontested as ZPMs in the Dibang Valley district while it also won 3 ZPM seats each in the Tawang,    West Siang and Lower Dibang Valley districts. The party has won a seat each in the Papum Pare, Lepa Rada, Anjaw, Namsai, Tirap and Longding districts.

The BJP has also managed to win 2 seats in the Itanagar Municipal Corporation unopposed after the scrutiny of nominations filed by the candidates.

Arunachal Pradesh has 25 zilla parishads with 241 constituencies and 2,215 gram panchayats with a total of 8,436 seats.

There are two civic bodies in the state viz Itanagar Municipal Corporation and Pasighat Municipality which has 20 and 8 wards respectively.
