ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu officially inaugurated Bichom district, marking its establishment as the 27th district of the state.

The inaugural ceremony, held at Napangphung, saw the laying of the district headquarters’ foundation, as stated in an official announcement.

During the ceremony, Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu entrusted deputy commissioner Akriti Sagar and superintendent of police Sudhanshu Dhama with their respective duties in the newly formed district.

Addressing the occasion, Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu extended his congratulations to the residents of Bichom, recognizing the fulfilment of a longstanding demand dating back to 1984.

He praised the efforts of MLAs Mama Natung, Goruk Pordung, and Dongru Siongju for their instrumental roles in realizing the creation of Bichom district.

Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu reiterated the government’s commitment to developing infrastructure for the new district headquarters.

He assured that all assets transferred from East Kameng to Bichom district would be replaced with new ones.

The establishment of Bichom district was made possible following the passage of the Arunachal Pradesh (Re-Organization of Districts) (Amendment) Bill 2024 in the state assembly earlier this year.

The district comprises a total of 27 villages from West Kameng and 28 from East Kameng.

In addition to inaugurating Bichom district, Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu also flagged off vehicles allocated to self-help groups under the Arunachal Grameen Express Yojana.

Furthermore, he initiated the foundation laying of 18 projects and inaugurated an equal number of projects.
