Assam’s oil rig man abducted from Innao of Changlang district in Arunachal

Ahead of simultaneous polls in the protected state and just after the two incidents of killings in nearby Tirap and Longding District, sensation now grips the 49 Bordumsa -Diyun assembly constituency in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh following the abduction of a rig man engaged in a work-over job at Innao under Diyun Circle here from the Diyun-Innao road late on Monday evening.

The abducted rig man identified as Sanjiv Kakoty was a contractual worker camping at Manabum and was carrying on a work-over job in Innao sites of Oil India Limited.

According to security personnels engaged in the plant, the abducted victim Kakoty of Sivsagar while going for his 2nd shift on Monday evening on a private four wheelers was picked up my unidentified miscreants along with the driver near Pacca Nallah in Gautampur area under Diyun Police Station in Changlang District.

Kakoty normally goes to the work sites in groups on an engaged Tata Sumo. However, due to lack of space in the vehicle, he chose to travel in a personnel four-wheeler that belonged to a local youth on that fateful evening.

Around forty such contractual workers serving under Sivasagar based Uditya Energy Enterprise have been camping at Manabum and engaged in the task at the defunct Oil India Plants at Innao around 22 kms from Manabum as informed by one of the personnel at the plant.

Another comrade said that the driver was released after walking few distances while Kakoty was led by the kidnappers towards the nearby bushes.

Meanwhile, the security agencies including 20 Madras Regiment stationed at Innao, Diyun Police and IRBN forces have been cordoning the entire vulnerable pockets in and around Innao and Diyun area for the safe rescue of the victim.

The DGP Eastern range visited the site and took stalk of the situation. He was directly monitoring the rescue operation till the filling of the report.

Ahead of simultaneous general and assembly election slated for April 11, the poll-bound Arunachal Pradesh has been witnessing a spurt of violence in various forms.

Earlier on Friday night, two National Peoples’ Party (NPP) workers were brutally attacked by the Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland – Isaak Muivah (NSCN-IM), a banned outfit, in Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh.

While one of them, identified as Zeli Anna, died on the spot, another was severely injured.  The same evening a BJP worker was killed allegedly by the Naga rebels.

Seliam Wangsa, a zila parishad member from Nginu block, had been campaigning in support of Honchun Ngandam, a BJP candidate from Pongchao-Wakka assembly constituency.

It may be reminded here, that the place in and around Bordumsa and Diyun which is known for safe hideouts for the militants and other anti -social elements hit the headlines over a period of time for fierce gun battle between the securities forces and militants.

Extortion, kidnapping, ambushes other forms of subversive activities and intense drug trafficking were often reported from this Assam -Arunachal border locations.

Thick forest cover sharing common borders with Myanmar running parallel with the perennial Nao Dehing River and its tributaries connecting other rough terrain in Namsai District have always proven to be safe for the militants to evade the security agencies.
