Itanagar: Robin Hibu, a true son of Arunachal Pradesh, has been promoted to the prestigious rank of Director General of Police (DGP), becoming the first IPS officer from the state to achieve this milestone.
Hibu, currently serving as an Additional Director General of Police (ADG) with the Delhi Police, has a distinguished career marked by dedication and service.

The 1993 AGMUT cadre officer previously held the position of Special Commissioner in Delhi Police and has served in various crucial roles, including recruitment chairman and vigilance chief of the transport safety division.
Hailing from the humble village of Hong in Lower Subansiri district, Hibu’s journey is an inspiration to many. He received his schooling at Kasturba Gandhi Seva Ashram in Hong and graduated from JN College, Pasighat.
Despite his background, Hibu’s hard work and determination led him to crack the state civil services exam and later, in 1993, the coveted UPSC exam, becoming the first IPS officer from Arunachal Pradesh.

Hibu’s achievements extend beyond his rank. He is a decorated officer, having received the President of India Police Medal for meritorious and distinguished services.
In 2021, he was awarded the Ati-Utkrisht Seva Padak by the Government of India. He has also been recognized by his home state with two gold medals for his service during his earlier stint in Arunachal Pradesh.
Expressing his delight at the promotion, Hibu stated, “I share this joy with every person of Arunachal Pradesh. It has been an incredible journey, starting from a school in Hong village to becoming an IPS officer and serving the nation in India and as part of the UN peacekeeping force.” He further pledged his commitment to continue serving the people of his home state.
The news of Hibu’s promotion has been met with celebratory messages from Arunachal Pradesh’s Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein.
Both leaders lauded Hibu’s dedication, service, and exemplary career, highlighting the inspiration his journey brings to the youth of the state.
