A BJP MLA in Arunachal Pradesh has been booked for allegedly raping a 30-year-old woman doctor.
Based on a complaint filed by the woman doctor that the ruling party legislator had raped her, Arunachal Pradesh police on Monday registered a case against Bameng constituency MLA Goruk Pardung.
“We have registered an FIR today on rape charges after a complaint yesterday. The victim is a doctor and the complaint is against MLA of the Bameng constituency, Goruk Pardung,” Hindustan Times quoted Itanagar SP Tumme Amo as saying.
Amo said the woman in her complaint mentioned that the incident took place at a hotel in Itanagar on the intervening night of October 12 and October 13.
The woman is posted as medical officer at Bameng Primary Health Centre (PHC) in East Kameng district.
SP Amo said that the police are investigating into the case.
He said a police team had visited the house of the MLA but he was not found there.
“As of now we are not planning to arrest him and we are just investigating the matter. But he is incommunicado,” Amo told the newspaper.
Police said Pardung has lodged a counter complaint with police which alleged that the victim came to the hotel on her own and that it is a consensual relationship between the two.
