Arunachal: West Siang district finalizes 92 schemes under Jal Jeevan Mission

The West Siang district water and sanitation mission has finalized 92 schemes under the Jal Jeevan Mission annual action plan for 2020-21 for the district.

The finalized schemes here would cover 573 households and would be implemented at an estimated cost of Rs 3849.45 lakhs.

The schemes were finalized during a meeting held under the chairmanship of deputy commissioner Moki Loyi here.

Out the 92, thirty-seven are ongoing schemes while 38 are new ones. Another 17 need-based schemes were added to meet up the water and sanitation needs of the district, officials said.

Earlier while addressing the meeting, DC Loyi stressed on the need for timely finalization of the estimate and notification of water sources in consultation with the village water and sanitation committee.

This, the DC said would help in the schemes being executed as per the guidelines and timeframe set by the Centre.

“The government is giving special thrust and focus on water and sanitation, especially during this pandemic situation so we should be able to reap its benefits to the fullest,” he said.

PHE assistant engineer Bomi Nyorak gave a detailed deliberation on various schemes approved for financial assistance for different components under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin), community sanitary complexes, information, education, and communication and capacity building campaigns etc.

The divisional forest officer and district rural development agencies project director spoke on identifying water resources and forest clearances.

Jal Jeevan Mission, a central government initiative under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, aims to ensure access of piped water for every household in India.
