The week-long socio-cultural awakening meet aiming to curb various anti-social activities as conceived by Tangsa Youth Association soon after its formation in June last week concluded here recently in a befitting manner yielding a significant response from all the targeted seven Tangsa-inhabited belts of Bordumsa-Diyun Circle in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh.

The relentless drive which kicked off with a day-long programme at Ballupather village under Diyun Circle was organized by the Association under the aegis of the Tangsa apex body, Tangsa Development Society (TDS ) of Bordumsa-Diyun circle.

“Reaching out extensively to all the Tangsa-inhabited pockets and particularly among the youth to instill among them a sense of renaissances and stand together to combat various social evils was the primary objective of the TDS in organising the awareness meet,” said Jentun Sangkey, the secretary of the Association, adding, “The most venomous among the evils gripping the society is drug abuse.”

“We covered 7 villages in the circle including Balu Pather, Dumba Mossang , Magantong, Borkhet, Lomkhom, Ponthai,Galenza Ponthai, and Wagun Ponthai wherein stress was laid to urge the youths in particular to shun the path of drug addiction and stand united to reform the existing evils gripping the community thus combating the forces of various anti-social activities with an iron feast,” remarked Bohon Bo, the president of the TDS, who was present during the entire week-long programme.

Drug menace being the epicenter of the agenda remained the major issue on the table, the Association and the society together encouraged the addicts to come forward for medication, de-addiction and rehabilitation which the TDS would organize in all the pockets for mass emancipation from the bondage of drug-addiction.

Portraying the gloomy picture of the circle as a whole terming ‘every second person in Diyun-Bordumsa is either a peddler or an addict’, a lady panchayat leader of Dumba Mossang remarked during her speech speaking high of the TDS for initiating such noble steps in the society almost resembling ‘renaissance and reformation of early European history’ for bringing in mass awakening in all fronts.

It is pertinent to add here that being inspired by such relentless and extensive drive which generated wide awareness and appreciation among the Tangsa people and the likes, the tea tribe organizations among the Adivasi people in Bordumsa-Diyun too have been preparing similar drives to realize the various desired objectives.

“The Adivasi component in both the circles being politically instrumental have been considered as a deciding factor over a period of time but ironically remains deprived of rightful claims in various aspects mainly because of ignorance, illiteracy, superstitions and the exploitative nature of the employers,” lamented a budding Adivasi leader of Bordumsa, Purna Gwala adding, “We would draw a series of awareness programmes among our people on a similar line.”
