Dibrugarh: Security forces have stepped up operations against militants in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tirap-Changlang-Longding (TCL) districts following the abduction of a mason from Khasa village in Longding district on September 23.
The mason was allegedly abducted by suspected NSCN militants from Khasa village under Khakham Circle. While security forces were searching for him, militants carried out another abduction in neighbouring Tirap district.
Police said two persons were abducted from a construction site at Barap village under Lazu police station around 11 p.m. last night.
According to officials, a site supervisor and a mason were abducted by a heavily armed group of NSCN militants while they were sleeping in their camp.
Security forces launched a search operation but could not trace the abducted persons.
The first abducted man has been identified as 31-year-old Abdul Kadir, a native of Assam’s Hojai district. Kadir was working as a mason under a contractor at a Community Hall construction site in Khasa village when suspected militants allegedly took him away.
Security agencies suspect that extortion could be the possible motive behind both abductions.
