Itanagar: Heavy rains returned to Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh on Sunday morning after a brief respite. A sudden cloudburst triggered multiple landslides and caused flooding in various parts of the capital city, according to disaster management officials.

The intense downpour, which began around 10:30 am, resulted in landslides across Itanagar and surrounding areas.

Floodwaters inundated stretches of NH-415, a critical highway for the city’s residents, stranding numerous vehicles.

While the state had been experiencing heavy rainfall in recent weeks, conditions had improved over the past two days, and no rain was forecast for Sunday. This unexpected cloudburst caused significant disruption.

Officials from the district administration urged residents to avoid rivers and landslide-prone areas due to the ongoing heavy rains. They advised people to move to safer locations.

To assist those affected, the district administration has established seven designated relief camps.
