The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Brig. (Dr.) BD Mishra (Retd.) Tuesday interacted with the students and the faculty of Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU), Rono Hills, Doimukh, National Institute of Technology (NIT), Arunachal Pradesh and North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST), Nirjuli at Raj Bhavan, Itanagar.
The theme of the interaction was ‘The Role of Students in ensuring Discipline and Proper Academic Atmosphere in Higher & Technical Educational Institutions ’.

The Governor stated that for an educational institution to have a good academic atmosphere, the students’ academic interest must be top priority. Peace and tranquility on the campus must be maintained. He said that at campus there should be no disruption of classes, no violence, destruction, extortion or obstruction, no political agenda and no thought or action against the unity and integrity of the nation.
Student bodies must support socio-academic advancement, promote talent, dignity and positivity of individual students in the campus. The acid test of student body’s agenda should be to endorse programmes which are for welfare of all, the Governor said.
The Governor underscored that the student bodies should take up programmes to honour academic performers, extracurricular activities’ achievers, gallantry awardees, social workers, and other innovative individuals amongst them.

Student bodies must promote social harmony, literacy, women empowerment, and cleanliness. They must be disciplined, committed to their social responsibility and have empathy and respect for other students.
The Governor apprised the students about the Placement and Ranking Improvement Committee, set up by him for RGU, NIT and NERIST. He emphasized on good performance at All India level, healthy academic atmosphere and apprentice opportunities for the best students in renowned Industries.
The Governor exhorted them to dedicate time to ‘Collective College Work’ and develop tolerance for diverse ideas and opinions but the difference between ‘difference of opinion’ and ‘opinion assailing the unity and integrity of the Nation’ must be understood.
The Governor, who has been spearheading cleanliness drives, urged the students to maintain Swachhta (cleanliness) in their college, institute, home, street, and village.
Earlier, the Governor along with the students observed a minute silence as mark of respect to the people who lost their life in the flood in Kerala and homage to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
