The Wildlife Week was observed at Berung village, one of the fringe villages of D Ering Memorial Wildlife Sanctuary in East Siang district on Sunday.

Villagers of Berung including students of the primary school in Berung also participated with much enthusiasm.
The celebration of Wildlife Week was conducted under chairmanship of second head gaon burah, Olom Panggeng of Berung village.
Panggeng as village head advised and appealed his people to conserve and protect the wildlife of nearby D Ering Wildlife Sanctuary.

He also said birds and animals of around the village should also be preserved and safeguarded.
The other speakers who participated from the village also propagated and assured wholehearted cooperation to the D Ering Wildlife Division, Pasighat for preservation, conservation and protection of wildlife in the sanctuary.
The villagers including head gaon burah, Balem Dai also voluntarily showed willingness in minimizing any kind of hunting in festivals also, as Adis have some festivals associated with hunting.
“We must do away with hunting in festivals also besides discouraging hunting for commercial and pleasure purposes due to which there has a drastic drop in the wildlife population in the region including getting extinction of some of rare species of animals,” said one Olo Dai, former Anachal Samity member of Berung village.
Senior village leader like Osup Taloh, Obyak Dai, Tatung Saroh, Taring Saroh also spoke on the occasion.
While, divisional forest officer, D Ering Wildlife Sanctuary, Tasang Tasa briefed and sensitized the villagers and students on the importance of co-existence of human being with animal kingdom.
He appealed the villagers to play a pro-active role in protecting the wildlife of D Ering Wildlife Sanctuary which is the worthy assets of entire people, especially of the fringe villages.
He also spoke and briefed the villagers about tourism potentialities of the sanctuary which will give direct and indirect benefits to the village folks.
He also spoke on doing away with use of plastic in our daily day to day needs as plastic has several negative impacts in our health and environment.
Range officer, Sibiyamukh Range, Domek Koyu also spoke on the occasion and advised the villagers to be more sensitive in protecting the wildlife for healthy environment for human living also.
State Board for Wildlife member, M Tayeng also urged the village folks to come forward in helping the department in controlling the hunting activities in and around the Sanctuary.
He gave a PowerPoint presentation on importance of wildlife.
Tayeng also took reference of recent incident of hunting of a Sambar deer in Lower Dibang Valley.
The carcass was seen carrying on a back of an elephant near Bomjir Bridge, some 12 km from Roing.
Notably, the wildlife officials from PCCF office Itanagar had taken strong cognizance of the offense.
He also urged the D Ering Wildlife Sanctuary officials and staff to give proper care to the protection of the sanctuary.
He observed some officials are found to be soft with the hunters despite having found enough evidences of hunting and other illegal activities in the sanctuary which indirectly encourages the hunters to do hunting for commercial purposes without any much fear of law.
Earlier a painting competition was also held among the students against single use and impact of plastic for which three students, namely, Tutu Taki, Ayang Mengu and Ralbom Perme hailing from various schools were awarded prizes.
