In a bid to wipe out drug menace, Arunachal Pradesh administration launched a crackdown on illegal poppy cultivation in Diyun and Khimiyang Circles of Changlang district in Arunachal Pradesh.
About 1, 535 kgs of raw opium were destroyed in the drive jointly carried out by district administration and police on Saturday.
During the operation, altogether eight plots of illegal poppy cultivation measuring about 3.2 hectares with raw opium (poppy) weighing around 1535 Kg were destroyed at Sompoi village under Diyun circle, besides Longsang and Thamlom villages under Khimiyang circle, said an official.
Two special teams were constituted — one each for Diyun and Khimiyang Circles.
A case has been registered at Diyun police station where two accused were arrested and two more cases have been registered at Khimiyang PS under NDPS act against illegal cultivators.
Earlier on February 12 last, Miao team destroyed around 450 sq meters of illegal poppy at Namphai-II under Miao circle where one case was registered at Miao PS against illegal cultivator.
