The Department of Physical Education at Rajiv Gandhi University in Doimukh on Monday inaugurated a 6-day online refreshers course for coaches and instructors of the Sports Authority of Arunachal.

The online course is being jointly organized in collaboration with the Sports Authority of Arunachal.

Various topics related to high sports performance shall be covered in these six days course by various renowned experts and sports scientist from SAI and other reputed speakers from across the nation.

The inaugural programme was attended by Vice Chancellor Prof. Saket Kushwaha; former scientist at SAI Kolkata Dr. Shailendra Sinha; Sports Authority of Arunachal director Gumnya Karbak; the director of the sports department, Arunachal Pradesh, Tadar Appa and assistant director of sports, Karbia Dodum.

District sports officers OB Meitei, Nada Apa, staffs, members of SAA and the sports directorate, resource persons from across the nation and faculty members of the department of physical education also attended the inaugural session conducted via Zoom platform.

Prof. Kushwaha in his inaugural speech spoke about work ethics.

He discussed the importance and role of the coaches and trainers in the whole sports ecosystem.

He told the gathering that the hard work of the coaches and trainers are reflected through the performance of the players under them.

Prof. Kushwaha also informed that RGU is introducing various courses in sports such as M. Sc. Sports Physiology; M. Sc. Sports Biomechanics; M Sc. Strength Training & Conditioning and M. A. Sports.

Dr. Shailendra Kumar Sinha, a former sports scientist with experience of more than 25 years spoke both in the inaugural session and technical session.

He spoke on the role of sports science and sports technology for high performance sports.

Dr Sinha said these days the countries cannot perform at the elite level unless they are equipped with scientific knowledge and support.

He suggested that if Arunachal Sports Authority adopts scientific approach and defines priority sports like combat sports and sports related to strength and power there will be a visible result with active training and support of the coaches.

Gumnya Karbak, director of Sports Authority of Arunachal, Tadar Appa, director, sports, Arunachal Pradesh and Dr. Anil Mili, HoD, Dr. Tadang Minu, joint coordinator and Dr. Vivek Kumar Singh, the course coordinator also spoke on the occasion and motivated the participant to complete the course.
