While highlighting the traffic congestion and parking problems faced by the people of the Capital Complex, Sonam said his federation had several meetings and surveys with its various federal units and also with the district administration on creation of an appropriate parking place as well as pick-up and drop points at various pockets of the highway stretch between Itanagar and Naharlagun.

“The issue was raised in front of the previous two DCs as well who were positive about our demand and also assured to fulfil the same by end of March. However, due to the frequent transfers of DCs in the capital, till date now concrete solution has been provided to us,” Sonam said.

The federation president said the area suitable for the parking lot is near the Clock Tower in Ganga Market.

He said the parking area must be developed, if required by dismantling the clock tower as there are more than 1000 commercial vehicles plying on the roads and due to non-availability of parking place, the drivers have no other alternative other than to park their vehicles near the road.

Sonam, who is also the national secretary of the All India Bharatiya Private Transport Majdoor Maha Sangh further appealed to the DC to finalise or regulate the private commercial vehicle rates within one month and said that the same has not been done for more than a decade.

It was informed that DC Malik had assured to discuss the matter with his officers and come up with a solution at the earliest.
