Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh government has announced a new initiative to prepare local youths for recruitment under the Agnipath scheme, with retired Agniveers to be given preference for state police, emergency, and fire services roles.

This announcement was made by Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu.

“The government of Arunachal Pradesh will facilitate training for local youths to prepare them for recruitment as Agniveers under the Agnipath scheme,” said CM Khandu.

“Additionally, retired Agniveers from Arunachal Pradesh will be given preference in recruitment for the Arunachal Pradesh police, AP Battalions, and Emergency and Fire Services,” the CM added.

Launched in 2022, the Agnipath scheme aims to recruit youths aged 17-and-a-half to 21 for the Army, Navy and Air Force, on a four-year contractual basis.

Recruits under this scheme are referred to as Agniveers.

After their four-year tenure, 25 percent of each batch will be offered regular service.
