In series of anti-extortion operations launched by Indian Army to stop the rampant extortion activities by banned militant outfits including the NSCN-KYA in Deomali circle under Tirap district, three individuals were apprehended by Digboi Battalion under Spear Corps wings of Indian Army on Monday morning from Deomali –Namsang area. 

The apprehended over ground worker of the NSCN-KYA has been identified as Windup Aeyen Sawin (55) of Soha village. 

The two linkmen were Samloi Moidam (40) of Soha village and Jotoan Socia (35) of Shiko village near Khonsa in Tirap District.  

According to a press communique issued by Indian Army, the apprehended individuals were caught with material evidences.

“The apprehended individuals were assisting in illegal collection of money from several villages of Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh by a group of NSCN KYA cadres led by SS Capt Rocky Thapa,” statement from the Army read. 

Cash amounting to Rs 53,200 and extortion proceeds from three villages including Old Khatang, New Khatang and Lausa was also recovered from their possession. 

“The operation has served a severe blow to the extortion nexus in the region and was appreciated by the local police authorities and the villagers,” the Army claimed. 

The apprehended individuals have been handed over to Deomali Police Station for further investigations.
