Arunachal Pradesh: Much awaited Hollongi Airport in Itanagar to be inaugurated on Independence Day

Final leg of construction works underway.

The much-awaited Hollongi Airport at Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh will be inaugurated on India’s 75th Independence Day on August 15. 

This was informed by Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu late on Sunday night.

Preparations for the inauguration of the Hollongi Airport are underway in full swing. 

Final touches are being given to the runway and construction work is expected to get completed well before time.

Taking to social media Arunachal Pradesh chief minister said: “Work going on full swing for completion of Hollongi Airport at Itanagar. The Airport will be inaugurated on India’s #75thIndependenceDay.” 

Spread over an area of 320 hectares, the Greenfield Airport once completed, would be able to accommodate narrow-body jets like the Airbus A321 in the first phase. 

The Hollongi airport will hold strategic relevance for the country and will also have various sustainability features. 

The airport will have a single 2,300 metre runway oriented east-west in the first phase, to serve Narrow-body aircraft and can be extended to 2,800 metres to land Wide-body aircraft.
