Arunachal Pradesh Health Minister Alo Libang on Thursday inaugurated the state’s first COVID-19 testing laboratory at a hospital near Itanagar.

With the lab, Arunachal becomes the third state after Assam and Mizoram in the northeast to have such facility.

The laboratory was inaugurated at Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIMHS) in Naharlagun.

TRIMHS was designated as a dedicated centre for treating COVID-19 patients.

As per sources, around 100-120 COVID-19 tests can be conducted per day in the news facility.

“From now on, there is no need to send samples to Guwahati or Dibrugarh for testing and we can do it right here,” Libang said.

“We are contemplating to set-up a similar laboratory at Pasighat General Hospital as,” he further said.

“Moreover, the state government is building infrastructure for setting up a temporary healthcare centre at Midpu for treating COVID-19 patients,” Libang further informed.

He also informed that the work for strengthening infrastructure at 10 hospitals across Arunachal Pradesh has been going on.
