Chief Minister Pema Khandu in presence of Gauhati High Court Judge Arup Kumar Goswami on Sunday laid the foundation for Arunachal Pradesh’s own High Court Building at Naharlagun near here.

Terming the day as historic for the frontier state, Khandu said, “This is a dream that came true after 18 long years and it has been one of the long felt demands of the people.”

Having an own separate high court will boost the fast track justice delivery system in the State, he said. The chief minister assured that his government will complete the construction of the building within a span of two years.

Khandu also informed that Union Minster of Law & Justice, Ravi Shankar Prasad who was supposed to lay the foundation stone could not make to the venue from Guwahati due to bad weather; however, he has assured the State government of all assistance that is required.

Speaking about the functioning of the district and sessions courts of State, Khandu said the cases, which are being handled by advocates of State government’s has improved to a certain level after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came into power.

The BJP government is totally against corruption and the ones involved in it, no matter who he or she is would be dealt with strictly and stern action would be taken against them as per the prevailing law of land, Khandu said.

Responding to a memorandum submitted by the Gauhati High Court Itanagar Permanent Bench Bar Association (GHCIPBBA) demanding for an Independent High Court in the state and elevation of senior advocates of the State in the chair of judges, the chief minister assured to place the matter before Union Minster Prasad and Gauhati High Court Chief Justice Ajit Singh on priority.

Khandu on the occasion also congratulated chief justice Singh and other judges of Gauhati High Court on receiving the ‘Best Performing High Court’ certificate of recognition from the Central government. Chief Justices Goswami and Singh and deputy chief minister Chowna Mein also spoke on the occasion.
