The All Nyishi Students’ Union (ANSU) distributed essential items to stranded students and daily wage earners in the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).

ANSU general secretary Gora Rikam Bhai said the distribution of rice, dal, mustard oil, potato, salt and other essential items would continue from the union’s office.

“We are targeting to reach out to at least 10,000 stranded students and daily wage earners within the capital region who have been affected due to a lockdown enforced by the state government to contain the spread of Covid-19,” he said.

He said the essential items are meant for all tribal students and daily wagers and not only those belonging to the Nyishi community. Sanitary pads are also being distributed for women, he added.

Bhai urged the medical team to intensify testing, tracing and treatment. He also sought the speeding up of the vaccination process so that most people are vaccinated.

“If all are vaccinated, lockdown may not be necessary,” he said.

The ANSU general secretary further asked the people of ICR to cooperate with the district administration and police during the lockdown period by staying at home and minimising unnecessary movement in order to break the chain of Covid-19 transmission.

He also appealed to the PHE department to restore water supply to the capital complex dwellers.
