A police officer under Pasighat police station, sub-inspector, Kalom Apang rescued a slow loris from the roadside at Poba reserve forest in Arunachal Pradesh.

Later he handed over the primate to the D Ering Wildlife Division, Pasighat in Arunachal Pradesh.

Talking at the sidelines of the rescue, Kalom Apang told that, he was on the way to Ralung village under Ruksin circle from Pasighat to attend a Solung festival programme at his brother-in-law’s resident there.

On the way, at Oyan-Jelum-Ruksin tri-junction at Assam side under Jonai police station, he saw some people playing with the primate which was trying to escape from the human clutches.

“On seeing them playing and hurting the small wildlife animal, I decided to offer some bucks to the people so that they easily let me pick the animal as I wanted to save this primate in distress,” said Apang.

After the rescue, Apang handed over the slow loris to Tasang Taga, Divisional Forest Officer, D Ering Wildlife Sanctuary Division, Pasighat.

On his part, Taga along with wildlife official, deputy range officer, Orin Perme released the slow loris at the same Poba reserve forest in the safer interior place.

“I deeply appreciate such noble act of kindness toward wildlife animal displayed by SI Kalom Apang and I would like to appeal all the fellow beings of East Siang to understand the importance of survival of wild animals also for healthy environment,” he said.
