Arunachal players win medals at SAG Games in Nepal

Arunachal Pradesh’s Rupa Bayor and Gangphung Gangsa have won silver and bronze medals respectively at the 13th South Asian Games held in Kathmandu of Nepal.

The duo won the medals in a taekwondo event.

Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu congratulated the medal winners who have brought laurels not only to the State, but the entire nation.

Khandu also lauded the efforts made by their coach Mari Karbak.

Nepal is hosting the regional sporting extravaganza for the third time from December 1 to 10 in Kathmandu, Pokhara and Janakpur.

In fact this regional meet started from Nepal.

It started under the banner of South Asian Federation Games in 1984 and returned for the second time in 1999.

South Asian Games, formerly known as South Asian Federation Games, are a bi-annual multi-sport event held among the athletes from South Asia.

At present, SAG are joined by eight members — Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
