Guwahati: An NSCN (IM) insurgent surrendered before the Assam Rifles in the Khonsa area of Arunachal Pradeshโ€™s Tirap district on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.

The surrender took place in coordination with the Arunachal Pradesh Police, officials said.

According to officials, the individual was involved in insurgent activities in the region and chose to lay down arms following sustained intelligence-based operations and continuous outreach efforts by security forces.

Authorities said the surrender reflects growing confidence in the security establishment as well as government initiatives aimed at encouraging misguided youth to return to the mainstream.

The surrendered insurgent has been taken into custody for necessary formalities and will be processed under existing rehabilitation policies.

Security forces said the development indicates the effectiveness of coordinated outreach efforts to restore peace, security, and normalcy in the region.

They also reaffirmed their commitment to encouraging more insurgents to abandon violence and join the path of development.
