Rajya Sabha MP Tai Tagak visited flood-hit Nari-Koyu and sought a special Central relief package for victims.

Dibrugarh: Rajya Sabha MP Tai Tagak visited the flood-ravaged Koyu circle in Arunachal Pradesh‘s Lower Siang district on Saturday and announced that he would urge the Centre to provide a special financial package for the affected Nari-Koyu constituency.

Accompanied by Nari-Koyu MLA Tojir Kadu, government officials and Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) representatives, Tagak toured several flood-affected villages to assess the extent of the damage and interact with residents impacted by the disaster.

Flash floods have severely affected around 20 villages in the Koyu circle, causing widespread destruction to homes, infrastructure and agricultural land.

Speaking to the media after the visit, the MP said the scale of devastation requires substantial assistance from the Central government. He said he would formally request a separate relief package for the flood-hit constituency to support rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts.

As an immediate relief measure, Tagak donated Rs 7 lakh for the affected people of the constituency.

Expressing concern over the hardships faced by residents, he said he would also request fellow Arunachal Pradesh MPs Tapir Gao and Kiren Rijiju, along with Members of Parliament from neighbouring Assam, to jointly approach the Centre for maximum financial assistance for the flood-hit region.

The visit comes days after an eight-member high-level Central delegation, led by Nishtha Tiwari, Joint Secretary in the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, toured flood-affected districts of Arunachal Pradesh to assess the damage.

During the visit, Tiwari assured that the Centre would extend all possible assistance to the state. She said detailed reports on the losses are being prepared based on assessments carried out across the affected districts.

The Central team was accompanied by Nari-Koyu MLA Tojir Kadu, Pasighat West MLA Ninong Ering and senior officials from East Siang and Lower Siang districts.
