Arunachal Pradesh deputy chief minister Chowna Mein has asked the rural works department to expedite the construction of the road connecting remote Vijaynagar with Miao in the Changlang district.

Mein, who on Monday, sat for a meeting to review the status of the road construction with RWD minister Honchun Ngandam and chief engineer D Nyodu at his office said that Vijaynagar, being one of the major border towns of the State located strategically near the Myanmar border needs proper road connectivity and the government is seriously concerned over the providing the same.

The deputy chief minister said that the State Government is ready to provide an additional fund of Rs 39 crore for re-alignment and construction of culvert and bridges in the road as sought by the department.

He, however, stressed that the department should judiciously use the funds and complete the road project within the stipulated time.

Earlier, minister Ngandam while requesting for the additional fund informed that due to the soil conditions and a shortfall in the sanctioned detail project report, a new alignment has to be made and that required the additional funding.

The meeting also saw chief engineer Nyodu has brief the deputy chief minister on the other difficulties and issues faced in the construction of Miao-Vijaynagar road like harsh topography, repetitive cloud burst, frequent rainfall, forest regulations etc.

He, however, informed that the department has already taken several steps to remove and resolve these issues.
