In a shocking incident, a man allegedly killed his daughter-in-law and her 2-year-old child and later ended his life by hanging himself in Arunachal Pradesh’s Longding district on Sunday.

According to the police, the incident occurred at the forest colony in Longding, around 305 km from Itanagar.

Police said information about the incident was received by the Longding police station at around 8 am on Sunday following which a team led by the Inspector Onyok Lego rushed to the spot and examined the crime scene.

As per initial inquiry, the accused Late Malem Pansa was a widower and an opium addict and had a history of harassing his daughter-in-law Late Toikam Pansa (30) for money. Reportedly there had been a quarrel between the two the night before the incident as well, the police said.

The accused, later in the wee hours, mercilessly attacked his daughter-in-law and grand-daughter with a local dao (machete) while they were in their sleep, the police said.

The deceased woman is survived by her two children and her husband who is a sepoy in the Assam Rifles.

“An FIR under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code has been registered and the investigation is on,” informed Inspector Lego who is also the officer-in-charge of the Longding police station.
