Dibrugarh: Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda on Thursday visited the flash flood- and cloudburst-affected areas of Arunachal Pradesh’s Keyi Panyor district to assess the extent of the damage.
In a post on X, Nadda said, “Visited the flash flood and cloudburst-affected areas in Keyi Panyor district, Arunachal Pradesh, today to assess the extent of the damage. My heartfelt condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones in this tragic disaster. In this hour of grief, my thoughts and prayers are with them, and I pray for the speedy recovery of all those affected.”
He added, “Under the compassionate leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, the Government of India stands firmly with the people of Arunachal Pradesh. I assure every affected family that PM Modi Ji is fully committed to extending every possible support, and the Central Government will leave no stone unturned in its relief, rehabilitation, and reconstruction efforts.”
Nadda also said, “Chaired a review meeting with CM @PemaKhanduBJP Ji, Deputy CM @ChownaMeinBJP Ji, Ministers, MLAs, and state administrative officers in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, today to assess the situation following my visit to the areas affected by the recent flash floods and cloudbursts. Instructed all concerned departments to intensify ongoing relief, rehabilitation, and healthcare efforts to address the needs that may arise in the aftermath of the disaster.”
He further said, “Under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi Ji, the Central Government, in coordination with the state government, will continue to provide swift relief, financial assistance, and all necessary support to the affected people.”
In June this year, a flash flood struck the NEEPCO colony area at Possa, damaging houses, severing road connectivity, and triggering landslides at multiple locations.
According to reports, five people were killed and several others were injured in the recent cloudburst in Keyi Panyor district.
Nadda, along with officials of Keyi Panyor district, visited the affected areas and assured all possible assistance from the Centre.
The Union minister’s visit is significant as the Centre has been continuously monitoring the flood-affected areas of Arunachal Pradesh.
“Around 15 to 18 semi-permanent residential quarters and project infrastructure at the NEEPCO colony were washed away or badly damaged by surging mud and debris from the Possa River. Major roads and highways were blocked, but the administration cleared the mudslides and boulders from the roads,” an official said.
