For a period of 14 days, starting from Saturday, the Lower Subansiri district administration has decided to declare Hapoli Township as containment zone.

The decision was taken after the township witnessed a rapid spike in the number of COVID-19 cases in several colonies.

As per government protocols, the residents of the township will not be allowed to venture out of their homes.

However, if the medical team assigned to check the residents allows, then the residents can come out, an official informed.

“Moreover, no unauthorised person shall be allowed to enter or exit the colonies without prior approval from the administration and district medical officer,” the officials added.

District Magistrate Swetika Sachan, who is also the chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority, has urged the Ziro citizens to cooperate with the medical team and the administration in contact tracing.

Meanwhile, 100 people were penalised for not wearing masks and spitting in public places in a drive carried out by Town Magistrate Tame Yajum and extra assistant commissioner EAC Amina Nabum at Hapoli on Friday.
