Bordumsa: The Arunachal Pradesh government has promoted Inspector Dumgandu Singpho to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), with the Home Department issuing the notification on July 29.
The promotion, recommended by the Departmental Promotion Committee, takes effect from July 23, 2026. Singpho is among 10 Civil Police Inspectors elevated to the Arunachal Pradesh Police Service (APPS).
A native of Dirak Na (Dirakpothar) village in Changlang district, Singpho is currently serving as officer-in-charge of Sunpura Police Station in Lohit district.
Before joining the police service as a sub-inspector, he worked as a government school teacher. During his policing career, he has investigated several criminal cases and led anti-narcotics operations across eastern Arunachal Pradesh.
Namsai Superintendent of Police Sange Thinley described Singpho as “a very determined and diligent officer” with strong public rapport.
“When I joined as DSP at Tezu, Mr Singpho was also transferred from Tezu within a short spell. Even then, I came to know him as an exceptionally hardworking officer with remarkable dedication and public confidence,” Thinley told Northeast Now.
He said Singpho’s anti-drug operations in areas such as Namsai had significantly disrupted narcotics networks and described the promotion as recognition of his years of service.
Speaking to Northeast Now, Singpho credited the achievement to the guidance of his senior officers and the support of the people in the areas where he served.
“This promotion is the result of the effective mentorship of my senior officers, the blessings of my community, and the trust and cooperation extended by the people in the areas where I have served across eastern Arunachal Pradesh. Their encouragement has always inspired me to discharge my duties with honesty, dedication and sincerity,” he said.
The promotion was welcomed by several Singpho organisations, including the Singpho Youth Organisation of India (SYOI), the All Bordumsa Singpho Students’ Union (ABSSU) and the Singpho Development Society (SDS).
The organisations described the promotion as a milestone for the Singpho community and said Singpho’s journey from a government school teacher to a DSP would inspire young people to pursue careers in public service.
