At least four teachers’ quarters and a ministerial staff quarter were reduced to ashes in a fire that broke out at the Kamba Government Higher Secondary School premises in West Siang district on Thursday night.

Though no injury or casualty has been reported in the incident, the occupants have incurred heavy property losses, officials said.

The fire is believed to have started from a kuttcha kitchen which falls in line with the teachers’ quarters, officials said while adding that the fire tender from Aalo, the district headquarters, could not reach in time to extinguish the blaze.

Liromoba legislator Nyamar Karbak, on being notified about the incident reached the Kamba GHSS and provided instant monetary relief of Rs 50, 000 each to two of the victims who lost everything in the fire.

Karbak also handed over Rs 10, 000 each and other relief items to the other victims who suffered minor losses.

Aalo deputy director of secondary education Eto Ete, Arunachal Teachers Association (ATA) West Siang district unit president Mardo Bogo and secretary Lojen Kamcham also visited the spot and contributed monetary relief.

The ATA members appealed to the administration to provide all relief to the victims as per government norms without delay.

Meanwhile, Kamba additional deputy commissioner Rujum Rakshap informed that a team has been constituted to assess the damages and provide immediate relief to the victims from the district administration’s side.

The victims are temporarily sheltered at the New RCC Girls Hostel, Rakshap said.
