Playing in the final of eighth under-17 Boys’ State Level Subroto Mukerjee Cup Football Tournament, East Siang became the Champion by beating East Kameng by 1-0 goal.
The tournament was played at Dera Natung Government College’s playground.
The team East Siang was represented by Government Secondary School, Motum under Mebo Sub-Division.
The match was very competitive as team East Kameng also fought hard to claim the championship and so the first half remained goalless.
In the second half, team East Siang’s captain Jerahmeel Jamoh managed to convert a penalty chance to a goal in the 42nd minute.
After team East Siang took the lead by 1-0, team East Kameng also tried hard to equalize and make a comeback, but the strong defensive and more confident winning team didn’t give any good opportunity to team East Kameng.
Lapung Angyu of Government Higher Secondary School, Seppa became the best player of the tournament, informed team East Siang.
Talking on the sidelines of the tournament and their win, Coach of team East Siang, Arun Tayeng said that, all the players of the team made a hard effort from the beginning at Pasighat and home ground at GSS Motum.
“We are very thankful to Mebo MLA, Lombo Tayeng for his extending reward of Rs one lakh for the team’s good play and bringing laurel to the district in general and Mebo in particular,” he said.
He has been helping us in all our district and state level tournament even in the past,” added Arun Tayeng.
The team also extended thankfulness to the East Siang District Football Association led by president, General Jamoh, all the well-wishers of Itanagar Mebobian Welfare Kebang (a group of government employees hailing from Mebo Sub-Division working at Itanagar) and others for all their moral, physical and financial support.
DFA’s joint secretary, Biswajit Tayeng also said that, it is the hard work of entire team which despite consecutive matches played strong and remained unbeaten even in the final.
Meanwhile, Mebo legislator, Lombo Tayeng in a message to team East Siang has said that, he is feeling proud of their win and as a token of appreciation he has also announced a sum of rupees one lakh for the team’s further preparation for national level tournament at New Delhi.
“I have been backing up and supporting sports since couple of years ago by my capacity under Mebo area and shall keep supporting them in near future too so as our students excels in sports,” added Tayeng from New Delhi when contacted.
