Dibrugarh: Diyun Police, under the supervision of Changlang district police, have apprehended those allegedly involved in the gang rape of a minor girl following a sustained investigation and coordinated search operation.
The case was reported at Diyun Police Station on August 21, 2026. After receiving information about the victim, who is currently undergoing medical treatment, Officer-in-Charge Inspector Ongsa Ronrang acted promptly and facilitated her evacuation to a hospital for medical care and assistance.
A case was subsequently registered under Sections 137(2) and 70(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 4, 8 and 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The prime accused, a resident of Dumpani, was arrested on August 23 as part of the initial investigation.
Police then intensified efforts to trace the remaining suspects. According to the police, the suspects had fled to Delhi and Dehradun before returning to Arunachal Pradesh and hiding in the Deban area.
In the intervening night of August 26 and 27, a police team led by Investigating Officer Inspector Ongsa Ronrang conducted an overnight search operation in Deban. The team included Constables Toanpen Afi, Kaku Yomgam and Pongkat Bo and operated under the supervision of Miao SDPO Paul Jerang, DySP.
During the operation, one Child in Conflict with Law (CCL) was apprehended. Police said continued search efforts and pressure subsequently led the remaining accused to surrender at Miao Police Station.
According to Diyun Police, two adult accused-one from Brajapur in Deban and another from Dumpani in Diyun have been arrested. Two juveniles have also been apprehended in connection with the case.
Diyun Police said it maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards crimes against women and children and will continue to investigate the case thoroughly. Police also said all lawful measures would be taken to ensure a fair and expeditious investigation and facilitate justice for the victim.
