The Border Roads Organization (BRO) has successfully restored surface connectivity to Arunachal Pradesh’s Shi-Yomi district on Thursday.
This comes as a huge relief for the people of the remote district who were disconnected from the rest of the state since June 1, after a vital RCC Bridge connecting Aalo, the headquarters of West Siang district with Shi-Yomi was completely washed away by flash floods.
The bridge over Sikam Sibu stream falls on the Aalo-Mechuka road, the route which is not only used by the locals but also by defence personnel.
The route has now been opened for light motor vehicles (LMV).
State legislative assembly speaker and Mechuka MLA P D Sona twitted, “GOOD NEWS!! As per information received, the Aalo-Mechukha road is opening for LMV from today (Thursday 11th June). My heartfelt thanks to the Border Road Organization, Indian Army, District Administration and laborers for putting all out efforts to restore the connectivity.”
