Arunachal: Community sanitary complexes coming up in East Kameng

East Kameng Deputy Commissioner Pravimal Abhishek Polumatla on Wednesday convened a coordination meeting with all stakeholders in Seppa to chalk out plans to construct community sanitary complexes (CSCs) in villages.

The aim of the project is to converge the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) with Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS).

The initiative aims to sustain the open defecation (ODF) status of the district and cover the villages within the solid and liquid waste management system.

Following detailed discussions, the DC directed the panchayat and rural development departments to coordinate with the public health engineering and water sanitation (PHE&WS) department for construction and implementation of CSCs with a solid convergence plan as desired by the government.

The task, the DC said should be completed by August 30.

The PHE&WS department was also asked assess and prepare a detailed plan for construction and implementation of CSCs in villages while the district rural development agency project director was asked to chalk out modalities to ensure convergence of unskilled labour component under MGNREGS for construction of the complexes.

All the projects as placed for implementation shall be segregated and prioritized based on the real need, availability of water, sewer feasibility, space, topography and other aspects associated with the location of the villages, Polumatla said.

The DC further exhorted all to cooperate and work in mission mode to achieve the true goal of Swachh Bharat Mission.

In order to avoid duplicity of work, PHE&WSD executive engineer Bharat Sonam asked the panchayat department to furnish details of all villages which were provided community toilet facilities earlier.

Among others, additional deputy commissioner Dahey Sangno, DRDA project director Ashok Tajo, Bana extra assistant commissioner Pooza Sonam Natung, block development officers and engineers from the PHE&WS department were present and took part in the discussion.
