Guwahati: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on May 23, Saturday, said that the concerns raised by the Arunachal Scheduled Tribes Bachao Andolan Committee (ASTBAC) regarding the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system are valid.
He also stated that the government will soon convene discussions with ASTBAC representatives, community organisations, and other relevant stakeholders.
According to reports, ASTBAC has already submitted a formal memorandum to the state government and has also launched an online petition drawing attention to the issue.
The chief minister pointed out shortcomings in the current ILP monitoring system, noting that it does not have a proper mechanism to track individuals who remain in the state even after their permits expire.
He explained that while records of ILP issuance are maintained, there is no effective system to monitor exits or identify those who overstay their permitted duration.
Khandu further said that strengthening the ILP framework is necessary and stressed that digital integration of the system is essential to effectively control unchecked entry.
He also said that the government will give proper consideration to all five issues mentioned in the ASTBAC memorandum, including those related to Tibetan refugees, and will take them up for detailed discussion with the committee.
