Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Wednesday directed the district administration and police to intensify investigation and book the culprits involved in the sensational rape and murder of a minor girl in Empong village under Chowkham circle of Namsai district on December 23 last.

While terming the incident as barbaric and inhumane, Pema questioned the mentality of those culprits, who first raped the girl and then took the extreme step of ending her life.

“The perpetrators of such heinous crime should be immediately nabbed and given exemplary punishment”, the Chief Minister assertively said.

“The culprits must be brought to book at the earliest so that the people are able to restore their faith in the public administration and the police,” he added.

Expressing deep sorrow over the unfortunate incident, Pema Khandu also announced ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakhs to the next of kin of the deceased according to the laid down norms.

He conveyed deepest condolences and extended solidarity with the bereaved family members.

The Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society (APWWS) has condemned the heinous crime.

Expressing serious concern over the increasing incidents of crime against women and girls, APWWS urged the State Government to take all necessary measures to ensure safety and security of women and girls in the State.

“We are deeply concern over the level of insecurity and the fear psychosis that has engulfed the women and girls. We are also appalled at the moral decay of the people, who consider the women and girls as means of their gratification,” said APWWS President Dipti Bengia Tadar and Secretary General Kani Nada Maling in a press statement.

APWWS appealed to the authorities to expedite the investigation so that the perpetrator(s) of the crime can be brought to book at the earliest.

They also appealed to all to extend help and support to the family of the victim in the fight for justice.

The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) has also vehemently condemned rape and murder of the minor girl.
