Local legislator Tsering Tashi on Friday inaugurated a sales counter of the Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) near the deputy commissioner’s office at Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh.

The counter aims to encourage local farmers to grow more vegetables and provide them a regular market to sell their produce, official said.

The Tawang unit of APMC has, meanwhile, been active in procuring locally available vegetables from farmer’s field and selling the same at government approved rates during the lockdown.

Speaking on the occasion, MLA Tashi appreciated the APMC and agriculture department for its contribution during lockdown and providing fresh local organic vegetables to the denizens.

He asked them to continue this activity in a sustainable manner.

DC Sang Phuntsok who is also the chairman of APMC, Tawang suggested that the activities like selling of ornamental plants seedlings, fruit saplings, vegetable seeds etc can also be carried out through the sales counter.

He informed that the APMC, Tawang has so far procured and sold 145.75 quintals of vegetables and potatoes and collected Rs 25, 6139/- from it.

“The total investment was of Rs 22, 2200/-,” he said.

Among others, Tawang superintendent of police B Kamduk and district agriculture officer Lobsang Zimba were also present to witness the inauguration.
