A police team nabbed three persons for selling stolen items in and around Ziro-Hapoli Township in Arunachal Pradesh through online marketing platforms like OLX.

A mobile shop had on May 29 reported a theft case at the Ziro police station and sub-inspector Pansam Mirip was entrusted with the investigation.

The progress was slow in the absence of any CCTV footage or any other lead. Mirip, under the guidance of Deputy SP Takir Zirdo and Officer-in-Charge Taba Rocky, analysed the IMEI and CDRs of the mobile phones and traced them to Ziro and Itanagar.

After scrutiny of the technical inputs the team zeroed in on three suspects, arrested them from Itanagar and recovered the stolen items.

On sustained interrogation, the accused – Bagik Tatu, Harokanto Dolley Martum Murtem – confessed to breaking into the shop in Hapoli Market and selling the stolen mobile phones through OLD, Facebook and other platforms using fake Ids.

They also said they had earlier committed such offences that were not reported to the police. Investigation in this case is on and more recoveries are expected, police said.
