A local court at Khonsa in Arunachal Pradesh’s Khonsa Tirap district has sentenced a 62-year-old man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) for raping a minor girl.
Reports said, the court convicted Unilye Chakma alias Anil Kumar Chakma of Diyun in Changlang district under section 6 of the POCSO Act for committing ‘aggravated penetrative sexual assault.’

As per reports, the man raped the minor girl on 25 July 2020, while she had gone to a nearby shop for purchasing some biscuits.
Based on a complaint filed by the family members of the minor girl, police subsequently arrested the accused and filed charge sheet in court.
The court has referred the matter to Changlang District Legal Services Authority for providing adequate compensation for rehabilitation of the victim under the Arunachal Pradesh Victim Compensation Scheme.
